Munich, June 2 2020. Munich-based software startup Climedo Health has been announced as one of the winners of EIT Health’s 2020 Headstart Program for COVID-19 initiatives along with  RAMPmedical, Intrepida and Thomas Wendler (Scinthealth).

In March 2020, Climedo Health had announced that it would be offering its clinical data capture platform for free to COVID-19 projects. EIT Health’s Headstart Programme accelerates the market launch of selected healthcare startups through grants. It also supports them with networking activities and with developing a project plan. In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, EIT Health expanded the scope of the Headstart programme this year to assist in the immediate need for solutions to combat the virus. As part of the process, EIT selected 21 startups that will develop products and services to help Europe to contain, treat and manage the disease.

As part of the application process, EIT Health Germany hosted the online pitch competition for the COVID-19 solutions on May 19. Eleven startups made the shortlist and pitched their projects in front of an expert jury, including Carina Benstöm ( RWTH Aachen), Gabriele Pestlin (Roche Diagnostics), Juergen Simon (Siemens Healthineers) and Thomas Hegendörfer (Johnson & Johnson Innovation). The jury selected four startups to be awarded the € 50,000 Headstart grant which will help alleviate the COVID-19 crisis. Furthermore, the selected startups will receive access to mentoring and business support to complete their project in the next six months.

“As a long-standing member of the EIT Health Germany network, we’re extremely proud and honored to be selected as one of the winners”, says Veronika Schweighart, Co-Founder and COO of Climedo Health. “COVID-19 requires fast action, and we believe that we have a moral obligation to make the best usage of our digital solutions in the face of COVID-19. This boost by EIT Health will give us the resources and support we need to bring our offering to the next level.”

About EIT Health

EIT Health was established in 2015, as a ‘knowledge and innovation community’ (KIC) of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT). The EIT is made up of various KICs who each focus on a different sector, or area, of innovation – in our case, that is health and aging. The idea behind the EIT KICs is that innovation flourishes best when the right people are brought together to share expertise. The so-called ‘knowledge triangle’, is the principle that when experts from business, research and education work together as one, an optimal environment for innovation is created.
